There has been a disturbance in the Force. Have you felt it?

It surrounds Naomi VonKreeps, fan favorite Canadian cosplayer who designs and models characters from Star Wars, comics, movies, and video games.

Many from the Dark Side! 😀

Her newest project is a Crusader from Diablo 3, appropriately armed and armored.

Like this. Not the usual fantasy female armor. This is a bit more practical for demon stomping.

She’s kept fans updated on her progress on her website,  Facebook, Twitter, DeviantArt, Youtube, and other stuff.

She’s just getting started — Crusaders are described as “tanks.”

Unfortunately, it sounds like this will be her final project! Here’s an interview with Naomi about this alarming development, along with some other stuff.

You have posted that Crusader is to be your last cosplay. Say it isn’t so! But if it is, would it be a partial or complete retirement from the interwebz? What are the chances you’d get the cosplay-making bug later down the road?

It is, it is! I’m been talking about quitting for well over a year now and really wanted to end my cosplay career with a cosplay from Diablo. I’m not going to disappear completely from the Web. I’ll still be on my twitter account mainly (@naomi_vonkreeps) and will keep my fb page up for awhile! It’s more likely I will be getting the crafty bug down the road. I love making things which is why I enjoy cosplaying so much. I’m sure I’ll still be busy making cool things. Maybe suits of armor for my cats LOL!

These guys.

What are some things you’ve learned designing and making costumes and wearing them at photoshoots and conventions that you’d never know otherwise?

Making costumes takes an unbelievable amount of patience. I have a tendency to rush through things and I’ve had to learn to take a break when I feel that need to rush. I’ve also learned that wearing my costumes at shoots, cons, etc, no matter what they are, is always an uncomfortable adventure. haha

What surprises you most in your experiences as a cosplay model/webmaster/interviewer/blogger etc.?

The fact that I have fans. Seriously this blows me away.

What’s your following like nowadays? What do you think of your fans? What does it mean to you to have fans like that? How do you deal with the trolls?

My following is great! I never thought I would have over 100,000 fans over various social media outlets. Ever. EVER! They are really a great bunch of people. Never anything harsh to say. They always seem to be cool and laid back. I’m not a great cosplayer, but no one seems to care or mind. I think most people realize that I just do this for fun.

Actually, I must say Naomi is, in fact…
a great…
cosplayer! This is her Assassin’s Creed cosplay, of which she is rightly proud.

In terms of trolls, I tend to ignore them, but occasionally I’ll call them out on their comments. Rarely do they ever respond. Funny that.

What are some of your favorite mementos, gifts, or messages from fans?

Oh man, I’ve received sooooo many cool things from people as well as received amazing messages. It’s too hard for me to pin a few things down. People have sent me awesome things from boxes of peanut butter cookies (my favoriiiteeee), to Star wars figures, to an Xbox One,  to Assassin’s Creed shaving cream (THERE IS SUCH A THING!!). I also receive the sweetest letters and cards from people. It`s very humbling that people take the time out of their busy lives to write letters, package stuff up and send things to me.

When and how did you start cosplaying? What inspired you to do so? Why Star Wars, Diablo, and other “boy-type” stuff instead of unicorns, princesses, and “girl-type” stuff? What draws you to it?

I started about 4-5 years ago. I had always been fascinated with cosplayers and costumes and one day I decided to put on a Boba Fett helmet during a photo shoot, and that was it for me.

This one, a Hasbro toy. She now has a much better 1995 Don Post Boba Fett helmet, she said.

Then came several other Star Wars type costumes which led to video game and comic book cosplays. I only cosplay things that I enjoy, so I guess I enjoy more boy type things. Lol I mean don’t get me wrong…I`ve always wanted to be a princess riding on a unicorn, but I`d be out slaying demons while doing so 😀

Something like this, perhaps!

Thoughts on Star Wars VII? Do you think J.J. will do a good job?

The teaser looked amazing. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. Like millions the world over, I got goose bumps when the Millennium Falcon shot up into the sky. It had an original trilogy feel to it, I thought. I think it is going to be epic and that J.J. Abrams will do a great job.

What have you learned from fellow cosplayers, talking to them at conventions and interviewing them for your website?

That we are all kind of obsessive about crafting and cosplaying. Like if something isn’t perfect, we get twitchy.

What are some of your favorite tattoos, and how did you choose them?

I’d have to say my absolute favorite one is my Ministry tattoo because they have been my favorite band since I was about 16.

There on her right inner bicep. No, on her arm. It’s on Naomi’s arm. 🙂

What would you like to be remembered for? What are some things you’d like to do, within the next year and 50 years from now?

I never really thought of that. Probably my sense of humor.

This is Naomi’s “Home Depot cosplay.” Yes, the humor is strong with this one.

Within the next 50 years, I want to own a hobby type farm with all sorts of animals. Chickens, goats, pigs, cows, etc. I love animals of all types. They bring me unending happiness and I’d love to be surrounded by as many as I can keep.

All the pictures used here are from Naomi’s website and Facebook page. There are many, many more. As she eventually finishes her final project and heads into cosplay retirement, I find comfort in the words of Ezio Auditore da Firenze, “Now should be a time for remembrance and mourning, I know… but our enemies do not permit us that luxury.”

They never do.
